TASK ANALYSIS RESEARCH UPDATE

We have have found five new articles this month - two articles employ cognitive task analysis and two employ classic hierarchical task analysis. One of the HTAs was used to develop a forward chaining process to help children with disabilities learn new skills, and a second was used to develop physical personnel standards for firefighters, which is the topic of our picture above.  The remaining article explores what the authors label "evolutionary task analysis." Safety Task Analysis for Oil Platform Evacuations

SAFETY-FOCUSED TASK ANALYSIS

On April 20, 2010, the DeepWater Horizon Oil Rig exploded, killing 11 men and requiring complete evacuation of the oil platform.  In high risk scenarios like these, there is no time for analysis.  That is why safety risk analysis must be carried out ahead of time to ensure that evacuations can be carried out as efficiently and effectively as possible to minimize the impact of human error in these high stress situations.
