I like entering tasks as a list of text, but how do I draw the task diagram instead of having it generated automatically?

The task analysis diagram can be quickly drawn using the diagram called Left-Right View. The diagram can be drawn by adding task boxes, naming them and moving them around the hierarchy. ...top of page

How can I send my analyses for people who do not own TaskArchitect to review, other than printing it out or exporting the data?

I want to do more than just create the task analysis, I want to highlight key tasks and perform calculations based on my ratings of the tasks. Can I do it in TaskArchitect or do I have to export the results?

Tasks can be highlighted in all diagrams according to the task details that you have recorded. For instance, you can highlight those tasks carried out by a particular operator or those tasks that involve a particular tool. I want to use the data that I have already collected using other programs, and later export the data outside TaskArchitect. Tell me more about data exchange with TaskArchitect

TaskArchitect can import tab and space separated tasks. This means that files from Excel and Word and any plain text file can be imported. Both the task names and the detailed information about each task can be imported. Since TaskArchitect uses the XML file format, it can also import XML. For instance, files created using MindManager and saved as XML can be opened and saved by TaskArchitect.

I find the speed of producing task diagrams with TaskArchitect very powerful, particularly when carrying out analysis on the fly with end users. Sometimes I want to tailor the output for a customer report – add my company name and so on. What’s the easiest way to do this?

TaskArchitect diagrams can easily be exported for final edits in VisioTM by Microsoft. From the File menu, choose ‘Export diagram …’ and save the file as .vdx format. ...top of page

I’m having problems downloading, what could the problem be?

It could be any of the issues listed below. If, after working through all the solutions, you're still unable to download a file from the TaskArchitect Web Site, please contact support@TaskArchitect.com

  1. If you are unable to download from other popular sites such as www.microsoft.com/ your Internet connection may be unstable. Contact your network administrator or helpdesk resource or Internet service provider to resolve the problem. For example, they may need to configure your computer to download from behind an Internet firewall.
  2. Download the file when there is less activity on the Internet (for example, early in the morning).
  3. Ensure that your hard disk has enough space available for the file you are downloading. To increase space, delete unnecessary files and applications.
  4. If you have installed an Internet download application to enhance download performance and reliability, disable it, uninstall it, or contact the manufacturer of the application to ensure that the software is working as expected and is not damaged or configured incorrectly.

What do I do to find the file after downloading it?

Try these solutions

  1. Find the file by name, then move it to a convenient location for installation (e.g., desktop). The filename appeared when you downloaded the file (e.g., TA_setup.exe). In Windows XP choose Start > Find > Files or Folders, type the filename (try “TaskArchitect*.*”) in the Named text box, then click Find Now. The name of the file appears in the download window.
  2. Consult the documentation or technical support for your communications software (e.g., Web browser, FTP application) to determine the default directory in which it stores downloaded files.
  3. When downloading from a browser, the browser normally prompts you for a location to which to save files. To ensure you can locate downloaded files, specify the desired location.

I get a security warning after downloading.  Is that normal?

Windows will always provide a warning to you before a downloaded file is run.  ...top of page

When I start the installation, I get the message “The publisher could not be verified.  Are you sure you want to run this software?”

This is a warning provided by Windows since Service Pack 2 was installed, part of Windows normal security operations.  This is normal for TaskArchitect.  Click “Run”. ...top of page

What do I do if the installation didn’t work?

An error may have occurred during the download.  Download another copy and start the installation again. Verify that your hardware and system software meet the requirements specified for the file you downloaded. ...top of page

What happens when the free trial period expires?

TaskArchitect will continue to run as normal, but you will not be able to save, export or print from the program.  Once you have purchased the software end entered your new serial number you will be able to save, export and print again. ...top of page

After I have purchased TaskArchitect, how do I enter my serial number?

If you have already downloaded and installed the trial software, simply type or paste your new serial number into the startup screen where it displays your trial serial number.  If you have not downloaded the software yet, download the software and follow the installation instructions.  Then, run the TaskArchitect and enter your serial number and username. ...top of page

A new version of TaskArchitect is available.  What do I do to upgrade my software?

Your user license entitles you to free upgrades for a year after your purchase. If your current software is earlier than version 1.1, uninstall it, download the latest version then install the new version.  Uninstalling TaskArchitect will not delete TaskArchitect data files. ...top of page

What do I do if I’ve lost my serial number and/or username?
