TaskArchitect was designed to be easy to use. That is a key goal for our product - taking the work out of task analysis. We also want to help people who could benefit from applying task analysis within their work to learn and develop this valuable skill. Wherever systems and products are designed for people, the analysis of what people need to do is an essential, critical step in design. Without a good understanding of what people are setting out to accomplish there is a risk that the final designs will lead to errors, reduced performance, frustrations or reduced sales.

Who would benefit from learning to carry out task analysis?

  • User interface designers
  • Technical writers
  • Designers of complex systems
  • Web designers
  • Training needs analysts
  • Instructional designers
  • Human Systems Integration specialists
  • Teachers
  • Designers of safety critical systems in the military, process control industries, transportation industries and medical industry
  • Web designers
  • Defense procurement experts
  • Human factors professionals

We offer two types of course. The first is for those people who are new to task analysis, who want to understand the basics of this skill and develop the ability to apply it on their projects using TaskArchitect. This course provides an overview of task analysis, the principles of Hierarchical Task Analysis, and practical issues in carrying out task analysis. It includes practical exercises to develop task analysis skills and practice with TaskArchitect. The content of the exercises will be tailored to the current work issues of the attendees, for instance training needs analysis (knowledge, skills and abilities, task frequency, task importance), cognitive task analysis, user interface design and task analysis for documentation design.

The second is for those who have an understanding of task analysis who want to develop their understanding of how TaskArchitect can be applied to tackle large, complex task analysis projects. This training focuses on some of the more advanced applications of task analysis such as managing large task analyses, using task analysis as a requirements gathering tool, and making task analysis a common means of communication across design teams.

Training in task analysis and TaskArchitect is scheduled to be provided in Canada, the US and the UK.
